Description
One of my favorite things about volunteering at state parks is having access to areas that the average person does not have; this being one of them. The fort is closed before sunset, even in winter hours. I'm certain the local photographers would kill for a sunset photo op from inside the fort.
Fort Clinch is located in Fernandina Beach, Florida where Amelia River meets the Atlantic Ocean. Fort Clinch was built in 1847, and was named for General Duncan Lamont Clinch, of the Second Seminole War. The fort was manned at different times by the Union and Confederate armies during the Civil War, but never saw action.
