Florence Martus "The Waving Girl" 1868–1943, would stand at the east end of East River Street in what is now Morrell Park in Savannah, Georgia.
As a young girl, Florence fell in love with a sailor. She began greeting ships coming into the harbor in hopes to find her love. From 1887 and 1931 Martus would wave a handkerchief during the day, and a lantern at night.
